Addis: Where the Buildings are as Ugly as the Women are Beautiful

Ugly may not be the right word. I have a deep affection for Soviet architecture actually. It compromises aesthetics to an extent that I think actually hurts practicality. It’s like that dog that’s so ugly you have to love it.

I’m not sure if the decoration on the front left is skewered basketballs or rods of a giant abacus.

I took the afternoon just walk around town a bit on little sleep and less sanity. After reviewing Lonely Planet for a little bit, I bought a ticket for the 10-hour bus to Bahir Dar, which is apparently on Lake Tana, source of the Blue Nile. Not the Blue Lagoon. We’ll have none of that business in a devoutly Christian nation mind you.
