Tarakan. No, Not the Cockroach.

It may be the Russian word for cockroach, but in here on the Indonesian part of Borneo ‘tarakan’ means not-terribly-exciting-port-city.

But it does have plenty of karaoke and piers. It seems like half the city is on boards over the edge of the Celebes Sea. So I wandered up and down and around the roundabout walkways, always expecting to see one of the many motorcycles drop through the decaying boards.

Passing through after my arrival by ferry on to another ferry tomorrow to the northeastern tip of the island in Malaysia.

  4. Slovakia is also a country of transit of Russian gas to Western Europe – mainly Germany. This gives Slovakia an instrument of defence against possible Russian energy blackmail, because in the present situation it is not possible for Russia to cut Slovakia off the gas, or rise prices dramatically without doing the same thing to Western Europe. Slovakia can influence indirectly the price of gas transported through its territory, by setting high transit prices, however Slovakia does not use this instrument.

  5. We love all our furniture from Boston Interiors. I’d love to see more posts about accessorizing once you have the “big items” selected… how do you dress up a room to make it more comfy and homey and stylized? Boston Interiors has such great accessories, but I think people forget about that step since they are so focused on which couch to pick… but I find that next step even harder sometimes!
