When I reached out to friends about where I should go in Borneo, I was surprised by how many actually had experience here. Isn’t this where they found King Kong? The land of 30-foot reticulated pythons and only one of a couple places where orangutans live indigenously?
Certainly the Indonesian side is less developed than the Indonesian side, but I can’t say I expected all the shopping malls of Kota Kinabalu. It’s a cute city, but without as much charm as the sunsets would imply.
But I will give it this. It’s got giant lizards on the beach. I saw the fellow up top as I was going in for a swim on a nearby island. So it’s nice to know that somewhere on earth dinosaurs and humans can still live peacefully together. And if they can do it, why can’t we?
There’s also great seafood here. But I don’t like seafood. So it’s a moot point. In the eloquent words of the Reverend Jesse Jackson, the question is moot.
