From the Yurts & Yaks to the Pass

A good night’s sleep in a Kyrgyz family’s yurt at 4100m in eastern Tajikistan’s Pshart Valley followed by a hike up to the 4730m-ish Gumbezkul Pass and down the other side into the Gumbezkul Valley.

I’ve never consumed so many dairy products in 18 hours as in that yurt. And all from the magical yak. If you’re interested, you can buy a baby yak for about $100. An adult for $600. They make great pets. So long as you live above 3,000m. Otherwise they will implode. Or, at very least, bitch incessantly about the heat.
