Moonscapes and Cave Art at 4,000 Meters

Two fellow travelers and I hired a 4×4 for a couple days to tread down a path across the high (4,00m+) alpine Pamir plains toward Zor Kul, the legendary source of the Oxus (now Amu Darya) River.

The rain-smudged photo at top includes the vehicle, the path, and Mars Curiosity rover way off in the distance charging us at full speed. I took the shot from a rocky outcrop where the Neolithic cave paintings of Shakhty portray a pregnant birdman and his bevy of beasts. They sure knew how to have a good time back then.
