War, Sex, and Smokestacks: Welcome to Ust-Kamenogorsk

An Afghan memorial displays etchings of the miseries of that conflict before an eternal flame. But at the grand meeting of the Ulba and Irtysh Rivers, the WWII memorial stands hideous and proud. A plain metal monolith splinters out of the ground between the dates of 1941 and 1945 and a series of statistics of losses.

The sex shop is closer downtown, fyi.

Oh, and incidentally, what the hell is with the body shape of the dead soldier in the photo at top? He looks hung like a horse with the breasts of Christina Hendricks.
